Insurance 101: Renters Insurance

If you’re renting your home, you may want to consider buying a renters insurance policy. It protects your personal property against damage or loss and protects you in case someone is injured on your property. Most policies provide two basic types of coverage: personal property and liability. Personal property coverage pays to repair or replace personal belongings if damaged, destroyed or stolen. Liability insurance provides coverage against a claim or lawsuit resulting from bodily injury or property damage to others caused by an accident while on your property.

Keep in mind, your landlord’s insurance will not cover your personal property. Assess your needs and the determine the right type of coverage for you. Click here to search for an agent or insurance company.

Auto theft prevention

Auto Theft Prevention

The Louisiana Automobile Theft and Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority (LATIFPA) works to combat motor vehicle theft, insurance fraud and other criminal acts. According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB), vehicle theft increased 8% in 2021. A few basic steps can help you avoid becoming a victim of auto theft.

  • Always lock your vehicle, close the windows and activate the alarm.
  • Install motion detector lights in the proximity of your driveway, carport or garage.
  • Don’t keep items with personal information in your vehicle, such as credit cards, ID cards and mail with personal information.
  • Keep an eye out for suspicious activity such as strange cars slowly cruising around the neighborhood.

Contact local law enforcement and spread the word of any incidents of attempted vehicle theft to alert others in your community.
