Insurance Options Ahead of Travel

The summer season is a popular time for travel and checking out your insurance options ahead of a vacation can keep your budget intact. There are several types of travel insurance, and it usually costs between 4% and 10% of a trip’s price. Here are a few:

Trip cancellation. It reimburses pre-paid travel expenses if you are prevented from taking your trip for a reason covered by your policy. It is typically included in every comprehensive policy.

Travel medical and major medical. The policy provides protection if you become ill or injured while traveling.

Baggage loss. Reimburses for loss of baggage or personal items.

If you decide to purchase a policy, read it thoroughly, ask about any coverage limitations or exclusions and pay attention to the fine print. Keep in mind that, travel insurance policies typically exclude epidemics and pandemics. Many homeowners insurance policies protect your possessions while you’re traveling.
