Prelicensing Education Requirements
Prelicensing education is only required for resident insurance producers who are applying to sit for an examination for certain lines of insurance.
The minimum prelicensing education requirements depend on the type of insurance producer license. The minimum requirements are:

|Health and accident only ||20 hours |
|Life, health and accident ||40 hours |
|Property only ||20 hours |
|Casualty only ||20 hours |
|Property and casualty ||40 hours |
|Personal lines ||20 hours |
|Bail bonds ||8 hours |
The following are not required to complete an approved prelicensing education course before sitting for an examination:
- A person applying for a license as an insurance producer for authorization to write life insurance and having any of the following designations: Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), The Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) or The Fellow Designation (LUTCF).
- A person applying for a license as an insurance producer for authorization to write health and accident insurance and having any of the following designations: Registered Health Underwriter (RHU), Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), Registered Employee Benefits Consultant (REBC) or Health Insurance Associate (HIA).
- A person applying for a license as an insurance producer for authorization to write property or casualty insurance and having any of the following designations: Accredited Advisor in Insurance Program (AAI), Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) or Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).
- A person applying for a license as an insurance producer to write any line of insurance and having a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university where the degree obtained includes major course work in insurance.
No prelicensing education is required for an individual applying for an insurance producer license for the lines of industrial fire, surplus lines, title insurance or limited life, health and accident, surety, credit, variable life and variable annuity, travel or specialty limited lines credit insurance nor is prelicensing education required for an individual applying for a claims or public adjuster license.
