Open Enrollment for Health Insurance Coverage Runs Through January 15
Louisiana residents now have the option to enroll in or make changes to their health insurance coverage for the coming year. Open enrollment for health insurance coverage runs from November 1, 2024, through January 15, 2025.
During this time, families can review their options and choose a plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
“This is the time to review your current coverage and check out your options,” Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple said. “A licensed health insurance agent can help you explore your choices to help you make informed decisions about your health care needs.”
Rate filings for plans on the Health Insurance Marketplace show an average rate decrease of 7.9% in the individual market and an average rate increase of 8.6% in the small group market.
Health insurers offering individual marketplace plans in Louisiana for 2025 are: Ambetter Health of Louisiana, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, CHRISTUS Health Plan and UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company.
The Louisiana Department of Insurance offers the following tips regarding open enrollment:
- Review your options. Plans and premiums can change each year, so confirm your doctors and medical providers are in the plan’s network you choose.
- Meet deadlines. If you enroll in a plan by December 15, your coverage will begin January 1, 2025. If you enroll after that date but on or before January 15, your coverage will begin February 1, 2025. If you do not elect coverage by January 15, you will be unable to get an individual marketplace plan unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period due to a qualifying life change.
- Contact an agent. A licensed health insurance agent can help you understand your options, answer any questions you may have and determine if you qualify for a premium tax credit.
