Catastrophe or Emergency Adjuster Registrations
A nonresident who is licensed as a claims adjuster in their home state or designated home state may apply for a Louisiana claims adjuster license online with the National Insurance Producer Registry (www.NIPR.com )
Pursuant to 22:1667, in the event of a catastrophe or an emergency, no adjuster's license shall be required for an individual who is employed or retained by an insurer and brought into this state for the purpose of investigating or making adjustment of losses resulting from the catastrophe or emergency. The procedures for the registration of catastrophe adjusters is set forth in Regulation 113.
Louisiana does not issue temporary, emergency or catastrophe licenses directly to individuals nor allow individual adjusters to file their own catastrophe adjuster registrations. Registration of catastrophe adjuster personnel must be filed by the insurer or their designee.
In accordance with Act 575 of the 2022 Regular session, a Handbook for Adjusting Catastrophe has been prepared which provides guidance for adjusting claims in the State of Louisiana and provides relevant information for evaluating property damage arising out of an emergency or disaster. Within ten (10) days of registration, adjusters registered pursuant to La. R.S.22:1667 shall certify that they have read and understand the most recent edition of the Handbook using the certification form located in Appendix A of the Handbook. Completed certification forms shall be maintained by each insurer employing or retaining the adjuster and shall be made available to the LDI upon request.
Registrations are filed using the “Catastrophic Adjuster Registration” module in our Industry Access System. (https://ia.ldi.state.la.us/industryaccess) .This module is only associated with insurers and will not appear as an option for any other license or entity type. Registrants are submitted by uploading a spreadsheet containing the required information. That information includes the registrant’s full name, Social Security Number OR National Producer Number (NPN), business address, state of residence (state where the registrant maintains their primary home) and information regarding licensing status in any other state (if applicable). The template of the required spreadsheet is available in the module.
Individuals with an active adjuster or public adjuster license in Louisiana cannot be registered as a catastrophe adjuster, and individuals who are residents of Louisiana cannot be registered as catastrophe adjusters.
The registration fee is $25 per adjuster. Fees can be paid online via credit card or ACH payment, and there is an option to print a remittance coupon to mail in a check payment if this payment method is desired. If the option of remittance coupon is chosen, the payment must be submitted no more than 10 days after submission of the registration. Upon acceptance of the registration, the insurer can print a certificate to provide to their registered catastrophe adjusters. Registrations are effective immediately upon submission and are valid for 180 days.
