Change of Address for Producer or Adjuster
Every person licensed with the Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) must maintain accurate contact information, including an email address, for receipt of official communications from LDI pursuant to La. R.S. 22:41.2. While producers and adjusters remain obligated to report changes to contact information within 30 days of the effective date, producers and adjuster also have the duty to verify that their contact information is valid on at least an annual basis. Producers and adjusters can review this information on our website using the public licensee search or by viewing their Producer/Adjuster Portal in Industry Access.
The business email address for producers, claims adjusters, public adjusters and consultants will be deemed to be the primary email contact address for communications sent by LDI. The licensee has the option of adding a specific contact for regulatory compliance matters and a specific contact for consumer complaints. These optional contacts can be added or amended by using the Licensee Contacts module within Industry Access.
LDI may contact a licensee via email on a matter requiring a response from the licensee. Licensees are responsible for ensuring their contact information is accurate and that they will receive communications from LDI at their listed email address. Failure to timely respond can lead to a compliance issue for which the licensee is solely responsible. Licensees should consider this if providing a general or shared business email address they cannot personally access for their contact information.
Reporting a Change in Email Address
Licensees can submit changes to their email address in their Producer/Adjuster Portal within Industry Access on the LDI website. Changes can also be submitted using the Contact Change Request option at the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR).
Reporting a Change in Mailing, Business or Resident Address
Licensees can submit most address changes electronically using the Producer/Adjuster Portal or the Contact Change Request option at NIPR. The exceptions are changes involving a licensee moving to or from Louisiana.
Moving from Louisiana
A Louisiana resident who moves to another state and wants to maintain their license in Louisiana as a nonresident can submit a request to convert the license to nonresident status. This will update the addresses and will convert the license to a nonresident status. The individual will have 30 days to obtain a resident license in the new state. If a new resident license is not obtained in the new state within 30 days, the nonresident license will be cancelled. If the new home state requires a Letter of Clearance, please submit a Cancellation Request and specifically request that you are issued a Letter of Clearance. Most states do not require a Letter of Clearance, so verification of the requirements in the new home state is recommended before you surrender your license.
Resident adjusters who are moving to another state that does not offer adjuster licensing may choose to continue to designate Louisiana as the home state for licensing purposes. If the adjuster chooses to designate another state as their licensing home state, they must submit proof of designated status in the new state.
Moving to Louisiana
An individual that moves to Louisiana from a state where they held a resident license must file a resident license application and be fingerprinted within 90 days of establishing legal residency. As long as the individual held an active resident in the prior home state within that 90-day time frame, they will be exempt from the license examination for any lines held in the former home state. It does not matter if the individual is already licensed in Louisiana as a nonresident. If a Louisiana resident license is not applied for within the 90-day period, they will no longer be exempt from the exam.
Branch Office Filings
In addition to requirements for notice of an address change, a business entity that holds an insurance producer license is required to notify the Department of Insurance of the addition of a branch office within 30 days of the date the branch office is opened. This notice must include the name and license number of the licensee and the complete municipal address of the branch office. Notice may be submitted in Industry Access.
