General Information for Education Providers
An education provider may be approved to offer continuing education courses. Education providers are approved separately from education courses. Education provider approvals must be renewed every three years. If an education provider’s approval expires, the provider’s courses will be inactivated.
Continuing education course approvals are valid for three years. A provider may renew a course by filing a complete course application prior to the course expiration date. There are no late renewals for continuing education courses. A renewal received for an already expired course will be considered a new course application.
Special note regarding online self-study continuing education course renewals - A request for renewal of an internet-based self-study course must include statistical information on the average and median length of time spent by all licensees who participated in the program over the previous three years.
The requirement to renew education providers took effect 5/20/21. Current education providers with active courses prior to 5/20/21 will have their 1st provider renewal due on 5/20/2024. All new education providers will expire three years from approval date. There is no change to the existing 3-year approval for continuing education courses.
A course must be submitted no less than 30 days prior to the initial offering of the course. A student may not earn credit for a course taken prior to the course approval date. A continuing education provider may not advertise that a course has been approved for credit prior to the issuance of such approval. No assertion of pending approval may be made unless the course has actually been submitted to LDI.
Education Provider Approval and Renewal
Prior to submitting a continuing education course, an entity seeking approval as an education provider submits the Education Provider Approval form along with the $250 provider approval fee. Once approved, the provider will be advised to create a user account within Industry Access to facilitate course filings and roster reporting. The provider can then submit course approval filings electronically through the CE Course Administration module within Industry Access.
Provider approvals are valid for three years from the date of approval. A provider may renew their provider approval by submitting the Education Provider Approval form and the $250 provider fee.
An Education Provider Approval form may be submitted by email to [email protected]. Be sure to include the Payment Remittance page from the application packet with the check if filing by email to ensure proper application of the funds.
Continuing Education Course Approvals and Renewals
Education providers may submit new course filings, course renewals and report course offering schedules using the CE Course Administration module within Industry Access The course application functionality consists of an electronic application form, a mechanism for uploading of required attachments and an option for electronic payment.
Electronic submissions are highly encouraged. Providers who are unable to utilize the CE Course Administration module should contact Producer Licensing for an alternative paper option.
An education provider may review their existing courses within the module. Existing courses include all active courses and courses that have been expired 90 days or less. An option to renew a continuing education course will appear in the Existing Courses listing 120 days prior to course expiration.
